Based on surveys, a potential employer browses a cover letter in less than 15 seconds. During your quest for employment, your primary sales tool is your resume and the cover letter, which gives an employer a quick first glance at you. When it has irrelevant content or there isn’t any focus, your resume may be placed in the “no” file and you won’t get a second look. Too bad for you and too bad for your potential boss, they’ll never get a chance to see you shine. Don’t let your cover letter be a doorstop for you, understand how it’s supposed to work before you send them out.

There aren’t many examples of cover letters out there to draw from, each has to be unique because firms have extremely specific hiring demands. You need to find out exactly what they’re looking for and use the cover letter to convince them you are the right person to fill their need. Without an impactful cover letter, they won’t ask you to interview.

What should a cover letter highlight?

A cover letter should be a fluid document, and address a number of open questions:

1. Who are you?
2. What do you have to offer?
3. What are you looking for in this job?

Your cover letter should be one page and easy to visualize. The proper information using the proper form gets the work done. A good pattern to follow is these questions with a couple of paragraphs:

Who are you? What type of person are you?

The letterhead lets them know your name, followed by your unique selling proposition (USP). Here’s an example of a USP:

“Experienced private equity investment business person with immense M&A financial ability…”

Qualify the USP with more information:

“Experienced private equity investment business person with immense M&A financial ability, was responsible for financing $10 million to a maximum of $1 billion in mostly biotech companies….”

If a referral came from one of their employees, mention it in the cover letter and use the person’s name. Include two or three personal comments for your reader to become oriented with who you are and why you’re asking for a job.

What do you have to offer?

You need to convince your potential employer you are the right person for the job. Do this by outlining what you have to offer in the way of experience and personality. Bring out one strong idea to turn your reader’s attention to your resume. Ponder the issues the firm needs to handle and bring this out in the body of your cover letter. Examples should be given to show you have the skills (use bullets to highlight examples) that you mention in your resume.

A call to action should be used in your closing.

After you explain why you are the best person for the job, request a meeting to discuss the needs of the company. Include your telephone number and email so they may contact you and thank them for their time and consideration.

It all sounds pretty basic doesn’t it? Well it is but it’s also crucial if you want to be seen and remembered. Keep in mind it only takes 15 seconds to attract the attention of the firm’s boss or have him/her dismiss you. Make the cover letter you send in for the private equity job you’re trying to secure be the best one in their inbox.

Everyone wants to earn some extra money right? Apart from full time jobs, you can do part time online work to make some extra bucks. There are many opportunities available online to make money but I personally like freelancing sites. Both Technical and non technical people can find some good paying jobs. Freelancing sites are like a shopping place where people put their product or item for sale, and people place bids. In the end, the bid with the maximum amount wins. At freelancing sites, the opposite happens regarding the winning bid.

People from all around the world open projects at freelancing sites describing what they need. Then people place bid on the project and in the end, most likely the lowest or minimum bid win the project. Nowadays, freelancing sites are giving a great opportunity for writers to make a career. Copywriting jobs are very easily available at these sites. If you are a writer or want to become one, then working as a freelancer is your best choice. Copywriting work is very easy to do and there is good money in it too. I used to work at two different freelancing sites and I even got $28 per 400 words article. Awesome isn’t it? Write few words and earn good money.

If you are not a professional writer but still want to do copywriting work then that’s ok. Because all you need to do copywriting work is grammar error free English and that’s it. Even if you are not a native English speaker, you can still earn via copywriting work. Take a look at few project descriptions at the freelancing sites. See what kind of articles people demand and then try to write them. After you complete the articles, read them and point out the mistakes that you might have done. In this way, you will learn copywriting work in no time.

One of the best times in a young person’s life is the graduation yet it is also one of the most stressful days ever. Graduation indicates the transition from college student to college graduate, from young adult to adult, from student to jobseeker.

A lot of students submit cover letters and resumes before graduation and many receive responses before their graduation date. Unluckily many colleges do not provide resume help workshops or classes on how to write perfect cover letters so many of the resumes of our best and brightest in this country are often thrown away because their resumes or letters do not look professional. This dilemma has been affecting college graduates for centuries so it is time to do something to solve it, its time for students to start refining their resumes before graduation day and begin writing cover letters that will help them land a job.

Cover letters are absolutely essential to be employed. The most basic step in job hunting is writing a cover letter for each type of job, not a generic letter that is sent with every application that doesn’t even say anything about the specific job. Cover letters are similar to a book cover. In order for a book to gain recognition, it has a book cover that gives a partial idea of the content of the book. If the book cover is amusing, it has higher probability to be bought. The same is true with the cover letter, if the letter is strong the hiring manager is going to flip the page and look at the resume, if the letter is not strong the hiring manager is going to flip the total package in to the garbage can.

However, writing a resume is one of the most problematic steps in a job hunt. The quandary resulting from lack of knowledge on how to create resume cover letters that will actually produce result can be crippling. Since most colleges and universities nowadays do not instruct students to creatively build resume cover letters, most college graduates are stranded in between being independent and dependent.

Frankly, valuable resumes are quite easy to attain. A valuable resume generally includes relevant info on skills and experiences related to a particular job position and company. With this information in mind, we can say that valuable resume cover letters are customized according to the job and the company as well.

All valuable cover letters have several things in common. First, they are short and compact letters that are too long will have the tendency to be shunned because the hiring manager will not have time to read everything included in the resume so the more concise a cover letter is, the greater its probability to be read.

A valuable resume is professionally written without any spelling and grammatical errors. This is achieved through regular editing and proofreading. Spelling and grammar mistakes are a sure ticket to the trash for any resume no matter how qualified the candidate.

Finally, valuable resume cover letters have interesting introductory paragraph, persuasive body content and convincing statements. Persuasive resume cover letters use persuasive verbs to tempt the hiring managers to give an interview. Again, resume cover letters should have the quality of a good book cover. It is should be convincing and powerful enough to sell the resume.
